PBR and Learfield College Rodeo Launch Collegiate All-Star Rodeo as Part of Bulls & Beats Weekend at Colorado State

Canvas Stadium to host groundbreaking Collegiate Team Rodeo following last year's PBR event that drew more than 25,000 fans

FORT WORTH, Texas (March 19, 2026) – An unforgettable evening of adrenaline and entertainment is coming to the college rodeo scene as Professional Bull Riders (PBR) and Learfield College Rodeo announced today complete details for the inaugural Collegiate All-Star Rodeo, a groundbreaking new Western Sports event that debuts during Bulls & Beats, PBR’s season-opening event at Colorado State University’s Canvas Stadium July 10-12.

Kicking off Bulls & Beats on Friday evening, the Collegiate All-Star Rodeo will ignite the weekend festivities with action-packed collegiate rodeo competition leading into a live post-event concert by three-time Grammy Award-winning country music icon Brad Paisley, the first of three major concerts throughout the weekend.

“The Collegiate All-Star Rodeo is a natural next step for evolving our new model of events in college stadiums and elevating college rodeo onto a national stage,” said Sean Gleason, CEO and Commissioner, PBR. “The combination of the highest level of rodeo competition, an iconic venue, and world-class entertainment will provide unprecedented exposure to collegiate rodeo athletes. This landmark event with Learfield College Rodeo will serve as the perfect prelude to the PBR Teams season, setting the tone for a fun, action-packed weekend.”

The Collegiate All-Star Rodeo will showcase two teams of 30 rodeo athletes each exclusively representing the 19 Learfield College Rodeo partner programs from North and South regions, bringing together the best of the best from collegiate rodeo competition. Teams will be selected and coached by legendary rodeo figures Joe Beaver and Sid Steiner (North) as well as Trevor Brazile and Dale Brisby (South). The official rosters will be revealed in June following the conclusion of the spring collegiate rodeo season.

Each of the 60 competitors participating in the Collegiate All-Star Rodeo will appear in custom Collegiate All-Star Rodeo jerseys featuring their school logos and receive prize money for competing with an escalator awarded to members of the winning team. Total prize money for the event will reach $180,000 – one of the largest single-event payouts in collegiate rodeo history.

“A premier collegiate rodeo event like this in partnership with PBR was part of the vision when we first established Learfield College Rodeo three years ago, and we are thrilled to have grown so quickly to a place where we can provide a national stage and significant earnings to a standout group of college rodeo athletes,” said Brad Poe, Vice President & General Manager of Learfield College Rodeo. “We can’t wait to see the Collegiate All-Star Rodeo come to fruition this summer and look forward to expanding to include even more college rodeo programs and athletes in future years.”

The Collegiate All-Star Rodeo will unleash a thrilling team-based competition featuring one-on-one matchups across nine rodeo disciplines with timed events being competed head-to-head under the revolutionary Rock N Rodeo drag-racing style format. Each of the nine disciplines will feature three head-to-head matchups worth one point apiece for a total of 27 points available. The team earning the majority of points available will be crowned champion with its all-stars earning the escalated prize money.

Event Formats

  • Timed Events (barrel racing, breakaway roping, team roping, tie-down roping, steer wrestling, goat tying) will feature head-to-head matchups between two opponents competing simultaneously
    • The faster run in each head-to-head matchup will win a point, with three total points per discipline
  • Roughstock Events (barebacking riding, saddle bronc riding, bull riding) - One-on-one matchups between two opponents competed back-to-back
    • The higher score in each matchup will win a point, with three total points per discipline
  • Tie-Breakers - If there is a tie or both riders in a matchup don't get a time/score, the point rolls to the next matchup

The Collegiate All-Star Rodeo is just the start as Bulls & Beats also kicks off the league’s fifth season of PBR Teams league over the weekend with each day culminating in concerts headlined by country music stars Bailey Zimmerman and Miranda Lambert. During the two-day, neutral-site PBR Teams event the world’s best bull riders compete as part of 10 teams representing cities across the country in head-to-head, five-on-five matchups.

PBR brought its “Last Cowboy Standing” event to Canvas Stadium at Colorado State University in July 2025, where the stadium’s first major Western Sports event drew more than 25,000 fans over two days and led to plans to expand its Western Sports showcase to three days in 2026.
